Fantastic interview to La Vanguardia head of pharmacology at the Valley of Hebron, Joan Ramon Laporte . It read things like this:
- adverse effects of drugs are the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S., even ahead of traffic accidents.
- the drug that kills more people is aspirin.
- of all intestinal bleeding that occurred the past year in Catalonia, 40% were caused by aspirin or other anti-inflammatory.
- the pharmaceutical industry is the third worldwide, behind the arms and drug trafficking.
- drugs in Spain are especially expensive, costing about the same as in Germany, which we doubled in per capita income.
- every year they invent new diseases, especially in relation to the mind and sex, and lowered the threshold of some diseases (the level considered normal blood pressure or cholesterol) to sell more drugs.
